The community is grieving the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Amber McCoig, a graduate of East Gaston High School, who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 29. She was a beloved daughter, a cherished friend, and, most importantly, a devoted mother to her 10-year-old daughter, Livi Grace, who now faces the world without her “momma and best friend.”
Amber’s passing has left family, friends, and loved ones reeling. Her cousin, Kymbre McCoig Robbins, shared a heartfelt plea on social media asking for prayers for Amber’s parents and especially for young Livi Grace, who is navigating this unimaginable loss at such a tender age.
“My heart has been so, so heavy,” wrote friend Randy Moore, reflecting on the deep personal bond he shared with Amber. Calling her his “little wild woman friend,” Moore spoke of the unique light Amber brought into his life and the comfort she found in their friendship. “God allowed me to be a safe place for her, and I truly am so grateful I got to be that for her.”
Amber had a joyful, spirited presence that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Whether she was changing up her hair with bold confidence or sharing moments of laughter and honesty with her friends, she embraced life with fierce love—especially for her daughter. Friends fondly recall how Amber would light up on “hair days” at Modern Textures, where her joy was evident in the selfies she proudly posted.
“She was my happiest client ever and Modern Textures’ biggest fan,” Moore recalled. “Though those photos make me tear up now, they also make me smile because I know I played a part in some of the ‘good times’ in her life.”
As loved ones struggle to process this sudden loss, they’re leaning on one another and the community for support. The family asks for continued prayers for Livi Grace, who was not only Amber’s daughter but her mirror, her shadow, and her heart.
