Deadly Shooting in South Charlotte—One Killed, Three Injured Near I-77 in SW Charlotte, NC

A shooting in South Charlotte on Monday afternoon, May 5, 2025, left one person dead and three others injured, prompting an active investigation by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Archdale Drive, near the Interstate 77 interchange.

Authorities confirmed that one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while three others sustained injuries. One of the injured individuals was transported to Atrium Health CMC with life-threatening injuries, while another was treated for non-life-threatening wounds.

Law enforcement officials secured the area, blocking off sections of Archdale Drive as investigators examined the crime scene. Officers collected shell casings, reviewed surveillance footage, and spoke with witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the shooting

Residents in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots, followed by sirens and emergency vehicles arriving within minutes. Some expressed concern over rising gun violence, noting that the neighborhood has seen an increase in violent incidents in recent months.
